Railway photography can be said to be a genre of photography that originates from railfanning activities. People who love trains are called Railfans. Railfanning activities themselves are very diverse, ranging from riding trains for fun (joyride), collecting miniature trains, collecting train visuals in the form of photos or videos. Even, there are many Railfans who are involved in the world of train photography. Point of Interest or commonly known as POI is the main point in a photo or can be said to be the core story in a photo. POI in railway photography is usually located on the train itself, usually on the locomotive or the front of the train. Most railway photography activities are indeed based on enjoyment. Railfans who pursue this hobby also often share photos through the virtual and real world. Railway photography can also record the history of the railway world that has ever existed

Railway photography is closely related to traveling and its atmosphere feels like landscape photography, namely by combining views of nature, such as hills, mountains, bridges, cities, grasslands, and interesting things around the railway tracks. That's why, railway photography feels so unique and is suitable to be made a fun hobby. Railway photography spends more time outdoors. Usually, the right time to do railway photography is in the morning and evening when the sun is still low and the sunlight is not too harsh, so the shadows produced are not too strong. However, this is not a fixed rule because photographers sometimes have to wait or even chase the moment

Preparation

Railway photography is best done not alone. Besides maintaining safety together, hunting with friends will feel more fun and enjoyable. Before going hunting, make sure your physical condition is in prime condition. Make sure all of your camera equipment is in good condition and ready to use. It is also advisable to photograph in characteristic locations that will be visited. This is intended to find out the conditions of the location and what equipment will be needed. This will help you know what to bring, such as what kind of lenses to bring.

Here are some points to consider before doing railway photography: šA. Preparing camera equipment:

 1.Make sure all camera equipment is in good condition and ready to use.

 2. Bring a standard zoom lens, for example, 18-55mm and a tele zoom lens, for example, 70-300mm.      Bring an 18-200mm lens because it is more practical.

 3. If possible, bring a spare camera battery.

 4. Bring as many memory cards as possible.

 5. Check camera settings before shooting

Preparing logistics and equipment

 1. Bring enough cash.

 2. Wear clothes that are suitable for the weather, such as long sleeved shirts, jackets, shoes, and other things.

 3. Bring enough bottled water for your needs.

 4. It is not wrong to bring light snacks.

 5. It is highly recommended to bring head protection, such as a hat, to avoid the heat of the sun.

 6. When hunting, it is not wrong to wear sunglasses to minimize UV rays

Letter S

The train tracks that form the letter S are often found in mountainous areas that have contour land, so the train tracks are made winding. This can be seen on the train tracks between Purwakarta Station and Padalarang Station in West Java.

Here are some tips and tricks to get train photos on the letter S tracks:

1. Always prioritize the safety of the photographer.

2. It is advisable to use a higher angle by climbing a hill or a place that is higher.

3.Photograph the train from a position that is opposite to the direction of the train.

4.To get a wider coverage, it is advisable to use a wide lens, such as a lens with a focal length of 18mm. 5. If the weather is sunny, it is advisable to use a relatively fast shutter speed, such as 1/1000s, with ISO and aperture compensation to get the right exposure.

 Learning the characteristics of the hunting location

 1. Look for as much information as possible about the location you will visit from trusted sources.

 2. Learn the characteristics of the surrounding environment.

 3. It is not wrong to also understand the characteristics of the local community.
